Electrical Engineering Manager

The Electrical Engineering Manager should challenge existing working practices to drive efficiency, remove unnecessary complexity and implement consistency within the team. This will ensure that quality, financial and delivery requirements are met within the business. A collaborative approach with other DB ESG teams is critical for this role to ensure that a high level of service is provided by the Electrical Engineering team to both their internal and external customers.

RESPONSBILITIES FOR THIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE:

- Leadership and Team Development: Ensure the Electrical Engineering Team achieves its business and individual development objectives through effective leadership and coaching. Develop and maintain a positive teamwork culture and environment that facilitates motivation and high levels of achievement ensuring efficient and effective communication for the successful definition and delivery of targets. Define and implement appropriate training and development programmes.

- Management: Lead the execution of day-to-day business. Ensure effective planning and communication at all levels. Drive progress to maximise sales and customer satisfaction, working with other departments/functions where appropriate. Prioritise activities to ensure high levels of performance, working with other departments and functions where appropriate. Ensure the Electrical Engineering Team fulfils its responsibilities within business processes at all levels.

- Project Delivery: Responsible for the provision of appropriate Electrical Engineering resources to meet work package requirements for projects within all areas of the business. Ensure that quality, financial and delivery requirements are met or exceeded, within budget constraints, to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction. Ensure that feedback is provided where the correct level of quality is not being achieved. Ensure that the Electrical Engineering Team follow the Project Delivery process, associated documentation, and approval gateways for the technical delivery of all projects.

- Financial: Ensure the Electrical Engineering Team delivers the required contribution to project financial targets through effective management and monitoring of allocated budgets and resources. Ensure that the Electrical Engineering Team forecasts within Business Central are accurate, work with Project Managers and Delivery Managers to complete these forecasts.

- Bidding: Ensure that a rigorous approach is applied to estimating during the bidding process resulting in accurate, competitive, and achievable project budgets. Stage plan in a manner to allow progress to be accurately monitored during the execution phase. Ensure the provision of high-quality input to client proposals.

- Technical: Ensure that technical knowledge and skills of resources within the Electrical Engineering Team are developed and maintained at the highest level within the industry. Implement technology within the Electrical Engineering Team to continually improve efficiency, effectiveness and motivation.

PERFORMANCE TARGETS FOR THIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE:

- Responsible for identification of the Electrical Engineering team resource requirements to achieve work package delivery on time, to quality and budget.
- Ensure billable utilisation target for budgeted hours are met, including appropriate allocation and management of non-billable activity such as training and business development.
- Achieve on-time delivery of the technical elements of delivery milestones.
- Achieve quality requirements for technical deliverables.
- Ensure that projects are effectively resourced with the most appropriate skill levels and experience to meet project requirements.
- Create repeatability and consistency for delivery of all bids.
- Ensure that the Electrical Engineering Team are implementing the Project Delivery Process for all projects.
- Develop, implement and review processes and procedures applicable to the Electrical Engineering team that meet the current and expanding needs of the business.
- Lead recruitment and resource planning for the Electrical Engineering team.
- Keep up to date with industry developments including new standards, technology and software to target increased efficiency and automation within the team.
- Ensure that technical knowledge and skills of Engineers and other resources within the Electrical Engineering team are developed and maintained to a high standard.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE:

- Experience of directly leading teams of resources in delivering projects.
- Experience of directly leading and managing functional teams within a business.
- Experience delivering multiple milestones for multiple projects.
- Proven record of building effective relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Proven communication skills: written, verbal, planning, visualisation, strategic, presentation.
- People and technical leadership.
- Coaching and mentoring experience.
- Proven experience of work package control to time, cost, and quality constraints.
- Significant knowledge of traction and rolling stock electrical systems or similar knowledge that is transferable from other industries.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE:

- Chartered Engineer or working towards.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the railway industry, legislation, and approvals processes.
- Strategic thinker as evidenced by previous activities and achievements.
- PRINCE2 foundation qualified Project Manager.
- Finance knowledge including business cases, budgeting, forecasting and cost
- centre management.
- Project cost estimating (Production, Review and Approval).
- Project proposal development (Production, Review and Approval).
- Experience and knowledge of performance management and business improvement methodologies.
