We are partnered with a globally recognised contractor seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join their commercial leadership team delivering hyperscale data centre projects in Denmark.
This position sits within a major hyperscale data centre campus and offers the opportunity to work on one of Europe’s fastest growing sectors in construction. The Commercial Manager will oversee the commercial performance of key projects, working closely with senior leadership and project teams to ensure successful delivery, strong financial performance and effective risk management.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Commercial Manager looking to develop their career within data centre construction. The role provides long term project pipelines across Europe. Due to the nature of the programme, experience on Data Centre projects is required.
Role Overview - Commercial Manager
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful commercial delivery of projects through strong leadership across cost management, contractual governance and financial reporting.
Working closely with the project leadership team, the Commercial Manager will manage project cost and value, oversee commercial reporting, lead risk and opportunity management and ensure strong commercial controls are maintained across the programme.
Key Responsibilities - Commercial Manager
- Lead cost and value management across Data Centre construction projects ensuring commercial systems and procedures are implemented and followed
- Oversee project financial reporting including forecasting, cashflow management and cost control
- Identify and negotiate unacceptable contract terms including bonds, warranties and guarantees with clients and stakeholders
- Manage project change processes by recording, evaluating and recovering commercial entitlements
- Lead risk and opportunity management with operations teams, ensuring mitigation strategies are implemented
- Provide commercial support and guidance to project and site teams
- Manage and mentor commercial staff, supporting professional development and capability growth
- Promote knowledge sharing across the commercial function through mentoring and structured development programmes
- Supervise the preparation of cost plans for complex projects using appropriate cost management tools and techniques
- Lead the analysis of project cost reports to support strategic decision making
- Ensure commercial teams operate in line with company values, health and safety standards and governance procedures
- Prepare and monitor long-term project cashflow forecasts and identify financial variances
- Lead preparation of contractual correspondence and commercial reports ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Develop systems and processes to monitor project costs and financial performance
- Support programme reporting and change management across project teams
- Contribute to business planning and ensure commercial objectives align with wider business strategy
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Provide guidance on contract risk allocation, step-down clauses and design liability within subcontract agreements
- Ensure commercial practices comply with legislation, company policy and industry best practice
- Represent the organisation within professional networks and industry forums
Requirements - Essential
- Proven experience in Commercial Management within construction or infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of contract administration, risk management and dispute resolution
- Experience leading commercial teams across multiple projects or large-scale programmes
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favourable commercial outcomes
- Detailed understanding of cost management systems and commercial reporting
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to prepare accurate contractual correspondence and commercial reports
- Experience working within design and build project environments
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Business Administration or a related discipline
- Valid CSCS card
Desirable
- Chartered membership with RICS, CIOB or equivalent professional body
- Experience delivering data centre, mission critical or complex infrastructure projects
- Experience with behavioural-based safety leadership
- Advanced knowledge of financial management and project cost optimisation
- Ongoing CPD in construction law, commercial management and industry best practice
