Client-Side BMS Design Engineer

Dublin

Day Rate:         Up to €700 per day

Contract:         12 months rolling

A unique opportunity to work client-side helping develop and build hyper-scale Data Centres across Europe. The client is actively looking for experienced BMS Design Engineers to join an existing multi-disciplinary team of design engineers based in the Dublin area.

Although paid on a day rate, this client-side opportunity for a BMS Design Engineer offers long term, secure employment. 

The client seeks experienced Building Automation System / Building Management System Engineers (BAS/BMS) who are experienced in the design and construction of Data Centres. The ideal BMS Design Engineer will have Engineer of Record (EoR) / consultancy design experience.

The BMS Design Engineer / BAS Design Engineer will join established team which collaborates with all key stakeholders to ensure that the engineering and design of data centres incorporate considerations from the micro-level (servers and IT equipment design) to macro-level (mechanical cooling and power distribution models) for maximum efficiency and reliability.

Typical Duties:

  • Act as an owner representative as part of the client design team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, e.g., Network Engineering, Construction, and Facilities Operations.
  • Review EoR/Consultant Engineer design documentation against owner's requirements.
  • Review BMS contractor hardware and software design documentation.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and managing BMS contractor schedules and working with design and construction teams to ensure milestone dates are on track.
  • Conduct pricing exercises to evaluate BMS contractor proposals and change order estimates.
  • Participate in construction meetings and workshops.
  • Coordinate client network connection requirements with stakeholders.
  • Review mechanical, electrical and controls commissioning test scripts.
  • Support Software Factory Acceptance Testing (SFAT) as owner representative.
  • Support Factory Witness Testing (FWT) as owner representative.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Ideally a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar related field, although working experience and a proven track record in this niche, within Data Centres, will be considered
  • A minimum of seven 5 years professional experience in building management (or automation) system design, development, and management. Experience must be gained in the European market.
  • Ideally experience in the EoR (Engineer of Record) design processes.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychometrics.
  • Understanding of Modbus protocol to include TCP, and RTU.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Networking Server/Client Workstations.
  • Familiar with hardware, equipment, and software product development process.
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Schneider Electric PLC/Unity Pro experience.
  • Citect Power SCADA understanding and working knowledge.
  • DCIM understanding and working knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of the data centre technology stack: computer, network, storage, and software architectures
