​What is a Signalling Engineer?

In a rail environment, signalling engineering enables operators to regulate the movement of trains on the network with minimum conflict or delay. A signalling engineer will choose to specialise in design, construction, maintenance or project management. 

What are the typical daily duties for a Signalling Engineer?

From employer to employer and project to project the job description of a Signalling Engineer can vary, however typical duties and activities undertaken include:

  • Undertake independent checks of the signalling detail design as per relevant standards and Signalling Design Specifications

  • Performing complex railway signal design tasks to relevant standards, industry codes and practices

  • Interacting with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve optimum outcome

  • Provide functional support and guidance to junior Design staff for all aspects of Signalling Design

  • Assist in the risk assessment of planned and completed designs

A stop on the Hurontario Light-Rail Transit (LRT) system

The Hurontario LRT project is part of the largest infrastructure investment in the history of Ontario. The province is providing $1.4 billion to build it in Mississauga and southern Brampton. The stop will officially be located at Brampton Gateway Terminal, a big transit hub in Brampton.

The Riverwalk

The Riverwalk project is estimated to cost $200 million for a long-term solution to flood risk in Brampton. Running along the Etobicoke River floodplain, the aim is to increase potential for urban development and make Brampton more healthy, sustainable and resilient.
