Job Summary:
The Institutional Site Superintendent plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects for institutional buildings in Napanee and it's surrounding areas. This position involves overseeing all aspects of site operations, including project planning, supervision of construction crews, safety management, quality control, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning:
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop construction plans and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and permits.
- Prepare and manage project budgets and timelines.
2. Site Supervision:
- Coordinate and supervise construction crews, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor daily construction activities to ensure they align with project plans.
- Address any issues or obstacles that may arise during construction.
3. Quality Control:
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality on the construction site.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify defects or deficiencies.
- Ensure that materials used meet project specifications.
4. Safety Management:
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures on the construction site.
- Conduct safety meetings and training for workers.
- Investigate and report any accidents or incidents.
5. Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the project team, subcontractors, and clients.
- Provide regular updates to project managers and stakeholders on project progress.
- Address any client concerns or requests promptly.
6. Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all construction activities, including daily reports, change orders, and project documentation.
- Ensure that as-built drawings and other project documents are updated as needed.
7. Budget and Cost Control:
- Monitor project expenditures and implement cost-saving measures when possible.
- Review and approve invoices and payment requests from subcontractors and suppliers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a construction site superintendent, particularly in institutional construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Familiarity with building codes and regulations in Napanee and Ontario.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Safety certification (e.g., Construction Safety Officer) is an asset.
