Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Data Centres

Job Description

Job Description

The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity has opened for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing team delivering high-profile Data Centre projects across the UK and Europe.

With a strong pipeline of work - including new builds up to 100MW, strategic asset replacement programmes, and complex upgrade projects in live facilities, this role offers the chance to step into a senior position within a team that's scaling in a thoughtful, controlled way. You'll be working directly with major data centre clients (including hyperscalers and colocation operators), shaping robust engineering solutions for mission-critical environments.

Based in our their London office, you'll enjoy hybrid working, a supportive team culture, and a clear pathway to develop project-management capability alongside technical excellence.

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you'll take technical ownership of electrical building services design across a wide range of data centre programmes. You'll be involved from concept through detailed design, contributing to advisory work, feasibility assessments, compliance monitoring, and delivery on major new-build and upgrade schemes.

This role combines hands-on engineering, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the opportunity to take a leading role on projects as you continue developing client-facing and project-management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering design and coordination across multiple data centre projects.
  • Produce high-quality technical outputs including reports, calculations, scopes of work, and specifications.
  • Represent the business at design meetings, technical reviews, and client presentations.
  • Develop electrical distribution systems (HV/LV), UPS, generators, protection schemes, and resilience strategies.
  • Review and assess existing facilities for upgrade opportunities, capacity expansion, and MEP improvements.
  • Ensure all designs meet statutory requirements, client standards, and internal quality processes.
  • Coordinate electrical services with mechanical, structural, architectural, and external consultants.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior engineers within the electrical discipline.
  • Monitor project resourcing, deliverables, and timelines in collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Support commercial awareness by identifying risks, variations, and opportunities for additional services.

About You

You'll thrive in this Senior Electrical Design Engineer role if you bring:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 5-10+ years' experience in electrical building services design, ideally with mission-critical or data centre exposure.
  • Strong technical understanding of power systems, HV/LV distribution, UPS, standby generation, and protection studies.
  • Experience delivering complex engineering projects and working across RIBA design stages.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence in presenting technical information to clients and project teams.
  • Working knowledge of BIM/CAD processes; Navisworks experience is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, fire, or public health systems is advantageous but not essential.

Why This Senior Electrical Engineer Role Stands Out

  • Work with major global data centre clients (under NDA) with projects across the UK and Europe.
  • Join a collaborative, supportive engineering team with a strong technical reputation.
  • Hybrid working with a central London office near London Bridge, Blackfriars, and Bank.
  • Real opportunities to step into more project-management responsibility.
  • Exposure to complex, high-value, mission-critical engineering challenges.
  • Be part of a company growing steadily and sustainably, not rushing or over-scaling.

If this sounds like the kind of senior role you've been looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
