A leading multi-disciplinary design and engineering consultancy is looking for a strategic Regional Director to lead and expand our Fire Engineering division across the UK. This is a high-level role designed for an established consultant who thrives in a client-facing environment and is ready to spearhead the growth of a technical team within a well-respected global brand.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & People Development
- Team Management: Direct a regional team of fire engineers, overseeing daily workflows, project allocations, and overall performance.
- Mentorship: Guide junior and mid-level staff toward Chartership and professional growth; manage the formal appraisal process and set SMART performance objectives.
- Technical Quality: Act as a senior technical resource, providing high-level input on complex designs and ensuring all outputs meet rigorous quality standards.
Project & Strategic Delivery
- Project Oversight: Lead the delivery of major, high-complexity fire engineering projects both in the UK and internationally.
- Commercial Management: Manage project budgets, provide accurate fee estimates, and ensure all work is delivered on schedule and within financial targets.
- Technical Authority: Serve as a Lead Verifier and Project Approver, setting the strategic direction for technical excellence within the firm.
Business Growth & Strategy
- Business Development: Leverage your technical reputation to attract new clients and strengthen existing relationships across the multi-disciplinary landscape.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the national Fire Team Business Plan and help design recruitment and marketing strategies to support sustainable growth.
- Operational Excellence: Champion Health & Safety policies and ensure the team hits key performance indicators (KPIs).
Requirements
- UK Experience: Proven track record delivering fire engineering solutions within the UK regulatory framework (ADB, BS 9999, BS 9991, HTM 05-02, BB100, etc.).
- Multi-Disciplinary Background: Extensive experience working within large-scale, integrated design consultancies.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on expertise with industry-standard software, including FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling tools.
- Professional Credentials: Membership in a recognized body (e.g., MIFireE) or NFPA certifications (e.g., CFPE).
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartership: CEng status with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE).
- Advanced Education: An MSc or PhD in a fire-related engineering discipline.
- Global Expertise: Familiarity with international codes such as IBC, SFPE, and NFPA.
- Compliance: Ability to obtain security clearance is highly advantageous.
