Quantity Surveyor - Up to £58,000 (DoE)

Location: Birmingham
Reporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior Commercial Manager

 

Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join a major Tier 1 contractor working on multidisciplinary light‑rail and urban infrastructure projects across the Midlands. You will play a key commercial role across a portfolio of projects from early inception through to final account, ensuring robust commercial management, contractual compliance, and maximised commercial outcomes.

Current programme highlights include work on a significant metro extension connecting key transport hubs and regeneration zones within Birmingham - involving new twin‑track sections, new stops, public realm enhancements and major interface management.

This is a role suited for a commercially astute QS who thrives on complex infrastructure projects, stakeholder engagement, and operating within a dynamic project delivery environment.

 

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for supporting and leading commercial elements across multiple live projects. Key duties include:

  • Commercial & Contractual Management

  • Cost Control & Forecasting

  • Change, Risk & Opportunity Management

  • Procurement & Supply Chain

 

Experience

  • Experience working in a commercial or finance function within construction, civil engineering, rail or major infrastructure.
  • Proven track record working as a QS on large‑scale or complex projects for contractors.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and/or other major forms of contract.
  • Cost and budget management experience.
  • Financial and commercial reporting capability.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (RICS/CIOB accredited preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years' PQS or contractor‑side experience.
