Principal Electrical Engineer – Data Centres

A rapidly expanding engineering consultancy is hiring a Principal Electrical Engineer to support major growth across hyperscale data centre, AI infrastructure, life sciences, and high-tech commercial projects. As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead electrical design and delivery for mission-critical projects from concept through commissioning, manage multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and act as a key technical partner to clients, contractors, and vendors.

What you’ll be doing

  • As a Principal Electrical Engineer, leading end-to-end electrical delivery for data centre and high-tech building projects

  • Designing and specifying LV/MV power distribution, emergency power, lighting, fire alarm, earthing, and life safety systems

  • Managing project scope, budgets, contracts, schedules, and risk

  • Acting as the primary liaison for clients, contractors, and suppliers

  • Producing tender documentation, technical reports, schematics, SLDs, and analysis packages

  • Overseeing quality assurance, compliance, site coordination, and commissioning

  • Mentoring junior and intermediate engineers, supporting technical development and best practice

  • Driving innovation in smart infrastructure and emerging technology integration

Technical skills required

  • Electrical building services design for data centre or commercial environments

  • Strong familiarity with IEC, CIBSE, BS, IS, EN and local regulatory frameworks

  • Software proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam and ETAP/Amtech/Dialux

  • Ability to produce detailed schematics, single-line diagrams, drawings, schedules, and compliance documentation

  • Familiarity with system coordination studies and commissioning within mission-critical environments

Ideal background

  • 8+ years of electrical building services engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering

  • Chartered or working towards chartership (Engineers Ireland or equivalent)

  • Proven experience managing multimillion-euro MEP projects from concept to completion

  • Minimum 3 years of data centre or mission-critical project experience

  • Knowledge of Irish and EU building regulations; LEED/BREEAM experience advantageous
