Managing Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

Managing Quantity Surveyor required for a leading civil engineering contractor.

Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function on key projects, based in Pontefract, working on a hybrid basis across site, office and home.

This is a senior leadership role, responsible for overseeing commercial delivery, managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors, and working closely with senior operational and commercial stakeholders to drive financial performance across projects and frameworks.

Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or construction

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

  • Demonstrable experience leading commercial teams (QSs & AQSs)

  • Strong financial, contractual and cost control expertise

  • Experience managing projects from tender stage through to final account

  • Excellent stakeholder management, leadership and negotiation skills

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity and commercial awareness

Duties include:

  • Leading the end-to-end commercial management of multiple projects or frameworks

  • Overseeing and reviewing project budgets, forecasts and cost estimates

  • Producing and reviewing monthly CVRs, ensuring accurate cost and value reporting

  • Managing and approving compensation events, variations and commercial claims

  • Implementing robust cost control, risk management and value engineering strategies

  • Ensuring effective contract administration in line with NEC requirements

  • Acting as the senior commercial interface with clients and key stakeholders

  • Supporting operational teams to achieve project cash flow and margin targets

  • Leading, mentoring and developing Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors

  • Contributing to commercial strategy, continuous improvement and best practice
