Field Service Engineer Nation Wide

Job Description

We are currently looking for a Field Service Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering maintenance and repair work across client depots within the rail industry.

This role involves both planned maintenance and reactive call-outs, ensuring rolling stock assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on rail assets

  • Attend client depots as scheduled or as instructed by the Operations Supervisor or Manager

  • Act as the first point of contact for clients while on site

  • Ensure job sheets, site reports and maintenance documentation are completed accurately and submitted daily

  • Book on and off site in accordance with client procedures

  • Follow company policies, procedures and site safety requirements

  • Ensure the correct PPE and certifications are held and used at all times

  • Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment in good condition

  • Report accidents, incidents, or operational issues immediately

  • Participate in an on-call rota and attend emergency call-outs when required

  • Attend engineering and client safety meetings where required

  • Support and mentor junior engineers, including signing off trainee work

  • Lead engineering jobs when required and provide technical guidance to colleagues

Key Requirements

  • Strong engineering experience, ideally within the rail industry

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a junior engineer or similar engineering role

  • Qualifications or time-served experience in mechanical and/or electrical engineering

  • Good understanding of engineering tools and equipment

  • Experience working within depot or operational rail environments (desirable)

  • Basic IT skills for reporting and communication

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to undertake further training where required

Desirable Experience

  • Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification

  • Knowledge of CWM’s, CET’s, fuelling systems, screenwash, sanding, AdBlue and fluid systems

  • Experience within rolling stock maintenance

Additional Information

  • Engineers will be required to participate in an on-call rota

  • Overnight accommodation may be required depending on business needs

  • Candidates must maintain high professional and safety standards at all times
