Reporting to: Head of Business Development

An established and growing organisation is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to support the expansion of its presence within the data centre sector across the UK & Ireland, working on a remote basis from their West Midlands based office.

This opportunity is ideal for a professional with a strong background in business development, technical sales, or account management within data centre infrastructure, electrical systems, or M&E environments, who is looking to further specialise in the rapidly expanding data centre market. The Business Development Manager will play an important role in strengthening the company’s commercial presence and building long-term relationships within the sector.

The successful candidate will be a commercially astute and strategic sales professional with a proven track record of winning and developing business within complex project environments.

They will possess strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage with key stakeholders across the data centre ecosystem, including developers, contractors and consultants.

This Business Development Manager will take a proactive approach to identifying new opportunities, building a strong pipeline of projects, and expanding the company’s customer base across the UK and Ireland.

The role requires someone comfortable collaborating with senior leadership, contributing to wider commercial strategy, and providing clear reporting and forecasting. A strong focus on customer service, stakeholder management and market insight will be key to success.


Position Overview

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving direct sales activity and commercial engagement across the data centre sector.

The role focuses on identifying new opportunities, converting leads into projects, and managing long-term customer relationships to grow market presence.

A significant portion of the position will involve generating new business, therefore an existing network of contacts within the data centre industry would be highly advantageous for the Business Development Manager.


Key Responsibilities of the Business Development Manager

Sales Execution & Account Management
Identify and engage with data centre developers, contractors and consultants to generate new business opportunities and develop existing customer relationships.

Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with key decision-makers across the data centre ecosystem to understand project requirements and position solutions effectively.

Project Tracking & Conversion
Track active and upcoming data centre projects, ensuring the business is well positioned to supply solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Internal Sales Collaboration
Work closely with the internal sales team to ensure accurate and timely quotations are delivered for relevant projects.

Customer Service & Support
Maintain a high standard of customer service by managing communications and ensuring timely responses to enquiries, quotations and order fulfilment.

Sales Reporting & Forecasting
Provide monthly sales reports detailing performance against targets, pipeline development, key wins, challenges and forward planning.

Sales Meeting Contributions
Present updates during monthly and quarterly sales meetings, sharing insights on customer activity, project progress and market opportunities.

Marketing Collaboration
Work alongside the marketing function to support sector-specific PR, advertising and LinkedIn activity relevant to the data centre market.

Industry Engagement
Attend industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities to strengthen relationships and raise brand visibility within the sector.

Market Intelligence
Provide feedback on customer needs, market trends and competitive activity to support business strategy and product development.


Experience Required

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in technical sales, account management or business development within the data centre construction sector
• Experience managing large accounts, contractors and blue-chip clients
• Strong understanding of data centre infrastructure, construction or electrical/M&E environments


Performance Criteria

• Achieve revenue growth and sales targets within the data centre market segment
• Develop and execute a strategic business plan to expand the customer base and increase market presence
• Build and maintain long-term customer relationships through strong partnership and understanding of client needs
• Deliver sales performance reports, revenue forecasts and pipeline updates to the management team
• Identify emerging opportunities, market trends and competitive activity within the sector
