Location: Newcastle upon Tyne - Office Based + Home Working

Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 dependant on experience 

Role Summary

A successful conservation and environmental consultancy based in Newcastle upon Tyne dedicated to enhancing nature and biodiversity are seeking a motivated and talented, ecologist to undertake the role of BNG consultant.

As a Biodiversity Net Gain consultant you will use your ecological expertise to bid, win and deliver a range of Biodiversity Net Gain projects that exceed client expectations and contribute toward your passion for nature's recovery.
You will design and deliver our innovative and creative Biodiversity Net Gain services including their promotion.

Alongside colleagues, you will be responsible for the management and safe delivery of complex, high-profile and interesting projects, on time and on budget, working with clients, consultees, collaborators and sub-contractors, where required

Responsibilities

- Development of corporate biodiversity strategies for retailers, developers and landowners
- Strategic assessments for land purchase decision making establishing high level BNG risks and
- opportunities
- Pragmatic Green Infrastructure design input into building and landscape plans that meet
- clients' requirements and budgetary constraints
- Delivery of BNG assessments (including UKHabs field survey and metric) for complex
- developments and landowners wishing to create Gain sites
- Habitat Management and Monitoring plans, including monitoring/verification visits
- Statutory/Regulator/Stakeholder Consultation
- Leveraging your experience of Biodiversity Net Gain to support ecology deliverables such as
- Ecological Impact Assessment and Habitats Regulation Appraisals
- Complex report production and technical review/authorisation ensuring our quality
- standards, including legislation and template review and updates where appropriate
- Production of the Environmental in Benefits Tools to improve the environmental net gain of
- projects
- Advising collaborators on BNG in a legislative and policy context
- Deliver BNG training to a range of stakeholders, clients and collaborators
- Efficient and professional client relationship management
- Project Management (including budgetary and resource planning) of projects
- Promotion of services and company including social media and networking events

Experience

- 3 / 4 years working in ecology consultancy with a minimum of two years' experience on delivering BNG projects
- Extensive practical experience of UKHabs survey methodology in a variety of habitats/development contexts
- Detailed knowledge of the principles and application of BNG in a commercial setting including measurement tools
- Application of Small Sites and Biodiversity Metrics
- Design and delivery of pragmatic BNG solutions on and offsite
- Design and delivery of BNG services including onsite and offsite gain, strategic BNG to inform land
- sale/purchase risk/opportunity modelling, use of metric and field assessment
- Report writing and technical review
- Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment, Habitat Regulations Screening Reports and Management Plans
- Client liaison and management & Project Management experience

Qualifications

- Min. of BSc degree in relevant environmental discipline
- Professional membership (CIEEM and/or IEMA)
- Critical thinking and application of ecological/environmental knowledge to achieve the best possible
- outcomes for people and wildlife
- Proficient use of Office 365
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
