​What is a Buyer?

The role of a Buyer is to research and purchase materials, supplies and equipment for the business and project they are working on. The role of a Buyer will often require you to be able to negotiate with suppliers to ensure you are getting the best price possible. As a Buyer you will also be responsible for updating inventory and ensuring that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.

Key skills to be successful as a Buyer will include:

 

  • Negotiation

  • Communication

  • Financial and accounting knowledge

  • Supply chain management and logistics

  • IT and stock management software knowledge

What are the typical daily duties for a Buyer Manager?

  • Industrial road resurfacing – approximately 16 streets amounting to 12.1 km

  • Creek and erosion control work, including Cooksville Creek, Mary Fix Creek and Etobicoke Creek

  • Construction of  823 m of new noise walls

  • Construction of 3.98 km of new sidewalks

  • Construction of 4.3 km of new multi-use trails
