​Located 35km southeast of Dusseldorf and 25km northwest of Bonn, Köln is the fourth most populous cities in Germany, with a population estimated at 1,083,498. Köln covers an area of roughly 156 square miles and has the third tallest cathedral in the world and one of Europe’s largest and older universities. Köln has seen numerous large scale construction projects over the past couple of years and has multiple large constructions projects in the pipeline, including;

Opera House Regeneration

A project that will see the 1950s concrete complex and introduce new studio space and stage for children’s opera has been rumbling on since 2011, which was when the city approved the plans. The initial cost of the project was estimates to be around €253 million, but this sum could now rise to around €841 million.

Köln-Deutz transport hub

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is providing approximately €280 million euros as part of its network package of measures to improve rail capacity. The main part of the project will be the construction of a Köln-Deutz transport hub.
