About the Company
Our client is delivering a major section of the UK's new high speed rail network as part of a joint venture between four leading international civil engineering contractors.
Together they bring extensive experience in the delivery of large scale infrastructure projects across the rail sector. Their current programme of works spans approximately 80km of the new railway and includes major earthworks, bridges, viaducts, road diversions and tunnelling works.
This project represents one of the most significant infrastructure schemes currently underway in the UK and offers professionals the opportunity to contribute to a programme that will shape the future of national transport.
About the Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will take a key commercial role supporting the delivery of major civil engineering works on a nationally significant infrastructure project based in Chipping Warden.
You will work closely with the commercial leadership team and project delivery teams to manage costs, monitor project performance and ensure strong commercial control across the project lifecycle. The role will involve both independent commercial responsibility and leadership of junior commercial team members.
This position offers the opportunity to work within a large and experienced project team while contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure works.
The key requirements for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
- Manage commercial activities across civil engineering project packages
- Prepare and agree variation accounts for both main contract and subcontract works
- Monitor project costs against budgets and programme targets
- Prepare and agree interim valuations and final accounts
- Manage subcontractor valuations, payments and final account agreements
- Provide contractual advice to project management teams
- Support change control processes including delays and compensation events
- Identify commercial risks and develop strategies to manage them
- Support dispute resolution and negotiation processes where required
- Mentor and support junior commercial staff within the team
Experience required for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of commercial management within construction projects
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts and contract variations
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a wider commercial team
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
- Membership or working towards membership with RICS, CICES or similar
- Experience working on large infrastructure or rail projects
- Experience mentoring junior commercial team members
