Location: Calvert (site-based with some flexibility)


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team delivering major civil engineering works on the HS2 Calvert section. This is a key role supporting the commercial leadership of the project, ensuring robust cost control, effective contract administration, and strong commercial outcomes under NEC contracts.

The successful candidate will bring proven main contractor experience, strong civil engineering knowledge, and the commercial confidence to operate effectively within a complex, high-value infrastructure environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of assigned work packages on the HS2 Calvert project

  • Administer contracts in line with NEC (ECC) forms, ensuring compliance and best practice

  • Prepare, manage, and agree applications for payment, valuations, and final accounts

  • Manage compensation events, early warnings, and change control procedures

  • Develop and maintain cost forecasts, budgets, and CVRs

  • Provide accurate and timely commercial reporting to senior project stakeholders

  • Procure and manage subcontractors, including negotiation of terms and conditions

  • Assess and manage commercial risk and opportunity, driving value for the business

  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team

  • Work collaboratively with project, planning, and engineering teams to ensure commercial alignment

  • Maintain strong relationships with the client, consultants, and supply chain


Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a main contractor

  • Strong background in civil engineering / infrastructure works (earthworks, structures, highways, utilities, etc.)

  • Demonstrable experience working under NEC contracts, ideally NEC3/NEC4 ECC

  • Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to manage cost, risk, and change proactively

  • Experience on major infrastructure projects (HS2, rail, highways, energy, or similar)

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a wider commercial team


Desirable

  • Previous experience on HS2 or other major rail projects

  • Professional qualification or working towards MRICS / MCIOB

  • Experience managing large, complex subcontract packages
