Senior Quantity Surveyor - Marine Infrastructure

Location: Devon with site visits as required

Excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading marine infrastructure contractor based in Devon.

Our client, a specialist civil engineering and infrastructure contractor, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple complex projects across the UK. This is a pivotal role within the commercial team, offering the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects including port developments, coastal defence schemes, dredging and marine construction works.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for ensuring the financial success, commercial integrity, and contractual compliance of a portfolio of marine infrastructure projects. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, strategic commercial management, and leadership capability.

You will also provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the commercial team, contributing to the company’s ongoing growth and commitment to excellence in marine construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all commercial and financial aspects of marine infrastructure projects, ensuring profitability and value optimisation.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost estimates, and cash flow forecasts.

  • Conduct regular cost-value reconciliations (CVRs) and financial performance reviews.

  • Manage procurement processes, tender evaluations, and subcontractor negotiations.

  • Administer NEC and other standard form contracts, ensuring full compliance and effective risk management.

  • Prepare and manage claims, variations, and dispute resolutions.

  • Lead cost control, financial reporting, and commercial reviews with senior management.

  • Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, acting as a key commercial representative.

  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to junior Quantity Surveyors.

  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements across all projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role, with at least 3 years at senior level.

  • Proven experience delivering marine, coastal, or civil engineering projects.

  • Strong working knowledge of contract management (NEC preferred).

  • Excellent commercial awareness, cost management and negotiation skills.

  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels, both internally and externally.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
