Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a high-profile, long-term project for Network Rail. This is a pivotal role within a dynamic and growing business, responsible for commercial management and cost control of a new facility, maintained and operated to facilitate the development of innovative rail technologies.

This is a multi-year maintenance contract with a significant and growing pipeline of Additional Service Requests (Variations), offering a unique blend of steady contract oversight and competitive tendering for renewal works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial and contractual aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and internal procedures.
  • Prepare, manage, and submit accurate pricing and cost estimates for Additional Service Requests (ASRs) for infrastructure renewals, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Lead and discipline-specific Delivery Managers (Track, Signalling, HV Power, Vegetation, etc.) to develop clear scopes and accurate submissions.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure proper valuation of works, interim applications, change management, and final accounts.
  • Identify opportunities for commercial improvements and cost efficiencies within both maintenance and project delivery scopes.
  • Support the expansion of operations by contributing to commercial strategy and future work winning, including involvement in tender submissions beyond the site.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally at Senior level, in a rail, infrastructure, or civil engineering environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and familiarity with Network Rail frameworks preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in both maintenance contracts and project-based work, including competitive pricing and tendering.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commercially astute, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying risk and opportunity.
  • Flexibility to travel to other depots as the business continues to grow.

In return, our client is able to offer unrivalled flexibility of work as well as a competitive salary and an impressive pipeline of work for the next five years at least.
