Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering major energy and infrastructure projects across the UK. About the Role
As Senior Planner, you'll play a key role in shaping and managing programmes for large energy transmission schemes across North Scotland. You will be focusing on a major 7-kilometer caballing project. Taking ownership of planning activities, guide junior planners, and work closely with engineering, commercial and operational teams to keep projects moving smoothly.
Your work will directly influence design, procurement and construction delivery, giving you a real chance to make an impact on high-value schemes that support Scotland’s energy transition.
The role will include working remotely from home and one day per month on site in Scotland – Inverness.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Planner
- Lead the development of detailed project programmes using P6.
- Support and mentor planners within the team.
- Review drawings and prepare material take-offs to support activity durations.
- Assess subcontractor programmes and integrate them into the master programme.
- Produce clear programme updates, narratives and dashboards.
- Work closely with pre-construction, operations and commercial teams.
- Translate civil engineering methods into detailed programme activities.
- Produce look-ahead plans and support collaborative planning sessions.
- Identify programme risks and communicate them to project leadership.
- Manage change, prepare CE programmes and support entitlement under NEC contracts.
Experience Required of the Senior Planner
- HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction.
- Planning experience with a main contractor.
- Strong Primavera P6 and MS Project skills.
- 7+ Years in a Planning role.
- Knowledge of NEC contract planning and change management.
- Background in an operational role such as Section Engineer or Sub Agent (advantageous).
- Understanding of civil construction sequencing and methodologies.
Desirable Knowledge / Skills of the Senior Planner
- Experience within the energy or power sector.
- Familiarity with time–chainage software.
- Ability to create dashboards, ideally using Power BI.
