About the Role
Due to continued growth and a strong forward order book, our client is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their team in Preston.
You will play a key role in securing projects ranging from £100k to £10m across multiple infrastructure sectors. You will take ownership of tenders from early review through to submission and internal adjudication, working closely with design, delivery and commercial teams.
This role will suit someone confident pricing from first principles and leading the bid process on civil engineering schemes.
The key requirements for this Senior Estimator role are:
- Analyse tender documentation and interpret scheme requirements
- Identify construction methods, programme strategy and delivery approach
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities within tenders
- Lead and coordinate bid inputs from internal teams
- Challenge designs and propose alternative construction methodologies
- Price civil engineering works from first principles including labour, plant and materials
- Prepare programmes and construction sequences
- Manage subcontract enquiries and analyse returns
- Compile net cost estimates including preliminaries
- Present estimates at internal adjudication
- Ensure timely and compliant tender submissions
- Review post-contract performance of tendered schemes
Experience required for this Senior Estimator role are:
- Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor background
- Proven experience estimating civil engineering projects
- Strong knowledge of highways, bridges, public realm or utilities schemes
- Ability to price from first principles
- Strong understanding of quantification and pricing methods
- Commercial awareness and ability to identify risk
- Strong communication skills under deadline pressure
- Proficient in MS Office and estimating systems
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Senior Estimator role are:
- Experience using Conquest estimating software
- Experience using ASTA Powerproject
- Professional membership such as RICS, CIOB or ICE
- Previous experience leading or mentoring team members
