Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centres

A rapidly expanding engineering consultancy is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help drive major growth across hyperscale data centre, AI infrastructure, life sciences, and high-tech commercial projects. The company has big plans and is scaling hard in Europe and the US, investing in new sectors, new teams, and next-gen engineering capability — so it’s a genuine chance for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to get in during an exciting phase.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll lead mechanical design from concept to handover, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior talent, all while pushing innovation and sustainability across building services.

What makes this opportunity attractive:

  • The company is in rapid expansion mode and winning major hyperscale + AI-driven projects

  • You get exposure to cutting-edge clients investing heavily in infrastructure

  • There’s genuine progression for a Senior Mechanical Engineer into leadership, delivery, or technical specialist tracks

  • Culture is quality-focused, collaborative, and supportive — not a churn-and-burn environment

  • You’re joining at a moment where a Senior Mechanical Engineer can actually influence standards, delivery models, and engineering best practice

What you’ll be doing

  • As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, leading mechanical building services design end-to-end

  • Acting as a key liaison between clients, architects, contractors, and PMs

  • Driving sustainable + innovative mechanical solutions across HVAC, water, fire protection, etc.

  • Producing tender packages, design reports, calculations, and specs

  • Overseeing site delivery, compliance, and commissioning

  • Mentoring junior/graduate engineers and shaping design standards

Tech skills they’d love

  • HVAC + mechanical building services expertise

  • Standards knowledge (CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS/EN)

  • Software like AutoCAD, Revit MEP + calc tools (IES/Hevacomp etc.)

  • Familiarity with energy modelling + low carbon tech

Ideal background

  • 6–8+ years in mechanical building services

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

  • Chartered or working towards chartership

  • Experience leading mechanical design projects (commercial, data centres, healthcare, life sciences, etc.)

If you’re a Senior Mechanical Engineer who wants to move beyond the everyday projects and get stuck into hyperscale, AI, and high-tech infrastructure while the company is still growing fast, this role would be an exciting switch.
