Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £35,000 – £50,000 per annum

About the Scheme Project Manager role

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-driven Scheme Project Manager to support the development and delivery of Network Rail infrastructure schemes, working across feasibility, design, and delivery phases. This role will suit someone with experience managing multidisciplinary rail projects and a passion for driving efficiency, collaboration, and results within a structured programme environment.

You’ll be responsible for managing projects across the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) development, ensuring all work is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities for the Scheme Project Manager role:

  • Manage Network Rail schemes through all project stages from concept and design to construction and handover
  • Lead and coordinate internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery
  • Develop and maintain project plans, budgets, and resource schedules
  • Oversee reporting on project performance, risks, issues, and change control
  • Administer project governance and ensure all documentation and processes are compliant
  • Work closely with contractors and Network Rail teams to manage delivery interfaces and milestones
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and CDM regulations
  • Support continuous improvement of project management processes and standards

Experience and skills required for the Scheme Project Manager role:

  • Previous experience managing Network Rail or similar rail infrastructure schemes
  • Strong knowledge of project lifecycle management and stakeholder coordination
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and reporting skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools

Desirable skills and experience required for the Scheme Project Manager role:

  • Experience working on Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) or other major NR programmes
  • Familiarity with NEC or similar contract frameworks
  • Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent)
  • Understanding of CDM and safety-critical environments
