Location: Open to candidates Locations ideally in the East Midlands / Midlands / North West and Yorkshire.

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 Negotiable dependant on experience and level plus competitive package and bonus scheme.

A highly professional Environmental Consultancy specialising in all types of Ecology, Hydrology and Environmental works has opened up a new office in Nottingham and is looking to take on a Regional Director of Ecology

This will includes an active role in the Senior Management Team encompassing the management and development of Environmental services across the midlands whilst providing support to ecologists in both the Perth and Glasgow offices. The Regional Director's role is to act as technical lead within all technical area(s) e.g., Ecology/Ornithology etc.

Objectives of the Regional Director role

- To plan, complete and manage Ecology projects and staff, raise standards and offerings and support and lead business initiatives to develop the business.
- To provide a high standard of scoping, survey design, survey capability and factual, interpretative, advisory, Ecological and legal/licensing reporting output, adhering to deadlines, and working in an accurate, timely and effective manner.
- To act as a source of reliable expertise on specific Ecology technical areas
- Project Direction responsibilities to staff to maintain accurate project programmes and budgets in line with company procedures.
- Understanding the importance of the planning policy context and familiar with relevant legislation and guidelines, across the UK but especially within England.
- To attract new Clients and generate new business for the company, not just by reactively writing tenders/proposals, but also by proactively identifying and contacting prospective clients in accordance with priorities identified/proposed by the Regional Director
- Grow staff numbers and skill sets within Nottingham and promotion of Gavia as a brand countrywide.
- Extend mentoring, supervision, and line management to all staff in relation to the delivery of ecology projects to standards required by Gavia, and to timescale and budget.
- Ensure Staff follow company ISO and Health and Safety Policies, and culture a behaviour amongst line charges that minimise risks at all project stages.
- Routinely review risks and liabilities to company, highlighting concerns to the Directors and providing solutions.
- Support and develop new ideas using market intelligence and networking.
- To operate in compliance with the Company's Operations Manual, Health and Safety (H&S) handbook, appropriate Code(s) of Professional Conduct and with strict regard to relevant legal requirements.

Requirements


- A strong undergraduate degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with a strong ecology focus) or similar/equivalent.
- A minimum of 10 years demonstrable post-graduate experience preferably in a professional ecological consultancy role encompassing large rail/infrastructure projects.
- Full Membership of CIEEM or equivalent with expertise in protected species surveys.
- EPS Mitigation licence application experience and Protected species licence holder or working towards same (notable species: bats & dormice).
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation and ecological survey methodologies.
- Experience in Invasive species survey and management.
- Excellent reporting writing skills with experience in drafting & critically reviewing ecological reports; including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments and Method Statements.
- Experience of working closely with regulatory authorities and various stakeholders.
- Experience of managing a team of ecological consultants and/or third-party contractors.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan and deliver works in line with budgets and programme deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss ecological issues and capture feedback.
- Health and Safety awareness, especially safe working practices and risk assessment related to ecology fieldwork.
- Valid driving licence.
