Quality Engineer - Rolling Stock
A leading rolling stock asset management company is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary Risk, Quality, and Assurance function. With a significant footprint across the UK rail network and an expanding innovation portfolio, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects that shape the future of rail.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to play a key role in delivering external audits in line with internal quality management systems, ISO 9001:2015, and RISAS certification requirements. The role will require visiting suppliers' premises and hence may require travel within the UK and occasionally overseas.
The key responsibilities for this Quality Engineer role are:
- Conduct audits across suppliers and internal functions as part of the company's Quality Management System.
- Plan and deliver audits, including raising and managing Corrective Action Reports (CARs).
- Authenticate that the proposed actions to close CARs are appropriate and reduce the risk of reoccurrence.
- Provide support to the fleet and project staff ensuring suppliers are taking appropriate actions to close CARs in agreed timescales.
- Provide support to the Audit Manager in the planning and management of the delivery of the audit plan.
- Support the Audit Manager across ISO 9001 & 45001 work, covering the Derby, London and Long Marston sites.
- Support any other internal quality improvements across the business when required.
- Conduct TOC (Train Operating Company) and supplier audits.
- Provide additional support to the fleet and project teams, effectively close out CARs and drive quality improvements with TOCs and Suppliers.
Experience required for this Quality Engineer role are:
- Background in the rail sector or equivalent industries (automotive, aerospace, or heavy manufacturing).
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and ideally RISAS and ISO 45001.
- Proven ability to audit process compliance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Ability to plan efficiently, oversee and manage tasks along with external suppliers.
- Ability to work with auditees when defects have been identified and developing them to an acceptable standard.
- Effective communicator with a collaborative, solution-focused mindset.
- Ability to interact and build a strong rapport with people at all levels both internally and externally.
- Engineering degree or equivalent
- Knowledge or build, inspection, test and maintenance processes within the rail sector or similar manufacturing environment.
- Good knowledge of UK rail traction and rolling stock, including maintenance and inspection processes
Desirable knowledge, skills & experience for this Quality Engineer role are:
- Ability to assess vehicle condition, reporting any significant defects, whilst reviewing routine exam maintenance is desirable.
- Experience of the operation of railways is desirable.
- Report writing sills to deliver an articulate output of audits and inspections.
- Computer literate with the ability to use Microsoft Applications, a knowledge of Oracle E-Business Suite is advantageous but not essential.
