Role Overview
We are seeking a switched-on, capable Project Manager to lead the delivery of a high-profile earthworks package on a prestigious civil engineering project in Chester. This is a client-facing role requiring strong leadership, clear communication, and hands-on delivery experience, ideally gained within a main contractor environment.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for programme, safety, quality, and commercial performance, working closely with the client and project stakeholders to ensure successful delivery over the 6-month contract period.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the day-to-day management of a major earthworks package
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client, maintaining a professional and proactive relationship
- Lead site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to deliver works safely and efficiently
- Manage programme, resources, and sequencing to meet key milestones
- Ensure strict compliance with HSEQ standards, RAMS, and project procedures
- Monitor progress, resolve issues quickly, and drive solutions on site
- Coordinate with commercial and engineering teams to maintain cost and programme control
- Chair site meetings and contribute to progress reporting
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Project Manager on earthworks / heavy civils projects
- Strong client-facing capability with confidence managing senior stakeholders
- Background with a main contractor (essential or highly desirable)
- Excellent understanding of earthworks operations, temporary works, and logistics
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Ability to operate independently and deliver under pressure
- SMSTS and relevant CSCS card

- Experience delivering prestigious or high-profile civil engineering projects
- Short-term mobilisation and rapid delivery experience
- Strong planning and problem-solving mindset
