Principal Consultant Engineer (Mechanical)
A fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK's leading rolling stock consultancies, providing services to the UK's train operators, manufacturers, owners and maintainers.
The role will support the Mechanical Engineering Manager in ensuring that the Mechanical Consultancy team's workstreams are delivered to a high level of standard, meeting customer requirements and commercial constraints.
The role will involve managing the day to day Technical Consultancy workstreams from initial enquiry, through bid development to project delivery. Liaising with customers to determine the details scope of the tender, produce detailed technical proposals and deliver the successfully tendered projects.
Key responsibilities for this Principal Consultant Engineer role:
- Lead a team within the mechanical consultancy department ensuring that the teams tender proposals and delivery work packages are completed with a high level of technical and commercial competence.
- Responsible for delivery of personal work packages to time, cost and quality.
- Provide technical support, advice, and guidance to other team members.
- Contribute to the definition of new processes and procedures and development of existing processes and procedures within the mechanical engineering team.
Experience required for this Principal Consultant Engineer role:
- Chartered engineer
- Ideally 10 years' + experience (ideally rail/rolling stock)
- Experience with cost and time estimating in a commercial environment
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience and knowledge within the field of Mechanical Railway Engineering
