Role Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator with a strong background in rail infrastructure projects to join our commercial/pre-construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for rail and associated civil engineering works, contributing to winning new business and supporting project delivery with sound commercial foundations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for rail infrastructure projects including stations, track work, signalling, civils, and M&E.
Analyse project drawings, specifications, and related documents to understand scope and identify cost drivers.
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to gather accurate pricing and market intelligence.
Participate in tender reviews, risk analysis, and value engineering sessions.
Maintain and update a library of historical cost data and unit rates.
Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, industry regulations, and client specifications.
Support bid managers and pre-construction teams with bid documentation and proposal narratives.
Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings as required.
Work closely with project managers and quantity surveyors post-tender to support successful project handover.
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Estimator within the rail sector (e.g., Network Rail, HS2, TfL projects).
Strong knowledge of rail infrastructure disciplines: civil engineering, track works, signalling, etc.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Candy, Conquest, Causeway, or similar).
Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and commercial stakeholders.
Familiarity with NEC, NR or JCT forms of contract.
Understanding of CDM Regulations and rail safety practices.
