About the Role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll be at the sharp end of testing, commissioning and energising HV equipment across substations, renewables and industrial projects. You’ll be the one making sure systems are safe, compliant and ready to go live, while working closely with project managers, clients and site teams. This isn’t just a role for carrying out tests — you’ll be expected to bring leadership on-site, share your technical expertise and guide others in the team.
The key requirements for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Lead commissioning and testing of HV/LV systems including switchgear, transformers, relays and protection systems
- Carry out secondary injection, primary injection and functional testing in line with project specs
- Take responsibility for energisation of high-voltage systems, ensuring safety is always the priority
- Prepare and sign off commissioning documentation, reports and client handovers
- Work closely with engineers, project managers and contractors to hit deadlines and deliver safely
- Provide guidance and mentoring to technicians and junior staff on-site
Experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Proven background commissioning HV and LV electrical systems
- Strong technical knowledge of protection schemes, testing and HV safety rules
- Able to interpret electrical drawings and schematics confidently
- Experience across substations, utilities or renewables projects
- Comfortable leading on-site commissioning activities and working with client teams
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across the UK
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status or HV Authorisation
- Experience with transmission and distribution networks
- Previous involvement in renewables projects such as solar, wind or BESS
- Electrical qualifications (ONC/HNC/Degree) in Electrical or Power Engineering
