Commercial Manager

Salary: £75,000 – £80,000 + Car or Car Allowance + Bonus
Hours: Full-Time, 8:00am – 5:00pm


Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Commercial Manager to take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of a portfolio of construction projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that each project is commercially sound, delivered within budget, and aligned with client expectations.

This is a senior position requiring excellent commercial awareness, strong leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively across project and management teams to drive both performance and profitability.


Main Duties

  • Take ownership of the commercial success and financial management of allocated construction projects.

  • Develop, monitor, and report on budgets, forecasts, and cost plans.

  • Provide sound advice on contracts, procurement strategies, and risk management.

  • Lead negotiations and manage agreements with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Proactively identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Manage procurement activities, ensuring best value and compliance with company procedures.

  • Track project progress and prepare regular commercial and financial performance reports.

  • Maintain robust records and documentation across all commercial activities.

  • Oversee variations, claims, and change control processes, ensuring accurate financial evaluation.

  • Support strong working relationships with clients and project partners to resolve issues efficiently and maintain satisfaction.


Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven background as a Commercial Manager in the construction sector.

  • Deep understanding of contract law, procurement, and project financial management.

  • Proficient in cost control, reporting, and value management.

  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.

  • Capable of managing several projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.

  • Strong analytical thinking and high attention to accuracy.

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).

  • Professional accreditation (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is desirable.

  • Competence in modern construction management software and digital tools advantageous.
