We are seeking an experienced Civil Structural Design Engineer to support the AMP8 programme for United Utilities. This opportunity is ideal for a Civil Structural Design Engineer looking to deliver and lead complex civil and structural design across major UK water infrastructure projects within a hybrid working environment.
The Role – Civil Structural Design Engineer
As a Civil Structural Design Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across multidisciplinary design teams and deliver high-quality civil and structural engineering solutions throughout the AMP8 programme. You will play a key role in shaping design outputs and supporting the successful delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
This is a design-focused position rather than a site-based role, making it ideal for a Civil Structural Design Engineer who excels in technical design and engineering delivery. You will be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept design through to detailed design and construction support.
Key Responsibilities
As a Civil Structural Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering civil and structural design across water and wastewater projects.
- Producing and reviewing civil and structural designs, calculations, specifications, and drawings.
- Designing reinforced concrete structures, foundations, steelwork, and associated infrastructure.
- Ensuring compliance with UK water industry standards, Eurocodes, and best practice.
- Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, process, and project disciplines.
- Supporting design reviews, value engineering, and risk management activities.
- Engaging with stakeholders, clients, and framework partners.
- Contributing to innovation and continuous improvement across AMP8 delivery.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Civil Structural Design Engineer or Civil / Structural Engineer within the UK water sector.
- Strong technical background in civil and structural design for water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Experience working within AMP frameworks or with major UK water utilities.
- Excellent understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and engineering methodologies.
- Ability to manage technical design and influence engineering decisions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
- Ideally Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
- Professional membership (e.g. ICE or IStructE) preferred.
