About the Role

Our client is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to support continued growth within their civil engineering business, based from their Preston office. This role will focus on developing new client relationships, strengthening existing partnerships and supporting work-winning activity across targeted sectors. You will work closely with pre-construction, estimating and senior management teams to identify opportunities, shape bid strategies and help secure future workload.

This role would suit an individual who understands the civil engineering market and enjoys building trusted, long-term client relationships rather than transactional sales.


Key Requirements

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within civil engineering and infrastructure

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders

  • Support bid and tender activity from early engagement through to submission

  • Work collaboratively with estimating and pre-construction teams to align opportunities with business strengths

  • Maintain an up-to-date pipeline of opportunities and market intelligence

  • Represent the business at industry events, meetings and networking opportunities


Experience Required

  • Proven experience in a Business Development or Work Winning role within civil engineering or construction

  • Strong understanding of public sector and framework-based procurement

  • Experience supporting or contributing to tenders and pre-construction activity

  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels

  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how projects are secured and delivered


Desirable Knowledge / Skills

  • Existing network within civil engineering, highways or infrastructure sectors

  • Familiarity with NEC3 / NEC4 contracts and framework environments

  • Experience working alongside estimating or bid teams

  • Ability to read the market and identify strategic growth areas
