Job Title: Building Envelope Specialist

Location: Vaughan ON

Salary: 65,000 – 85,000

Our client, a multi-disciplinary Engineering and Design firm, is looking to hire a Building Envelope Specialist for their team.

Building Envelope Specialist - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform independent field measure‐ups during design stages.
  • Is proficient in building envelope reviews and designs, including OBC and NBC, source appropriate building materials/systems for projects with research and interaction with industry specialists.
  • Review shop drawings during contract administration
  • Prepare permit application documentation.
  • Prepare technical specifications.
  • Prepare construction change documents.
  • Has obtained BCIN designations in Legal and Small Buildings, and LEED certification as necessary.
  • Estimating quantity of materials and construction budgets
  • Attend tender and project meetings and prepare meeting minutes as required.
  • Prepare building condition audit reports and feasibility reports for more complex projects.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Project
  • Prepare tender documents and specifications for client.
  • Exposure to clients, contractors, and other designers
  • Ability to obtain Building Science Specialist (BSS) designation within this level.
  • Perform site visits during construction and prepare site visit reports.
  • Complete more complex projects for minimal review by others.
  • Prepare design drawings using CAD and/or REVIT.
  • Review fabrication drawings
  • Developed skills in design aids to introduce efficiency into daily work and processes.
  • Develop skills in designing and reviewing building envelope systems and components, including roofing, cladding, waterproofing (including foundation waterproofing) and various wall and glazing systems and compositions.
  • Obtained skills in building rehabilitation, including concrete sounding and restoration.

Building Envelope Specialist - SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Building Envelope Specialist will be working independently and working towards gaining additional experience and knowledge with more complicated projects.
  • Experience, professional development and upgrading skills are the main attributes of these levels.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience and have strong technical design skills with problem solving abilities and academic knowledge of building envelope systems, and extensive knowledge of building code and building component elements related to the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to time management skills, have been developed.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Parts 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11 of the Ontario Building Code, in addition to other local and national building codes, is expected.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills are further developed.
  • Travel will be required as part of workload assignments, primarily in Southern Ontario, thus the candidate must have a valid class G Ontario Driver’s License and their own vehicle complete with valid automobile insurance.
