Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a Residential Developer for a project in Croydon:

Key Tasks
- Carry out tasks as instructed by members of the quantity surveying team such as measurements for valuations
- Assist in the management of the contract cost reporting system
- Assist with sub-contract tender processes and support the preparation of sub-contract documentation
- Prepare payment certificates for sub-contract work
- Assist with the valuation of variations
- Assist with the preparation of interim applications for payment
- Assist with the preparation of valuations and claims, ensuring that they are supported by relevant records
- Identify potential risk and opportunities and escalate these as appropriate

Person Specification
Experience
At least 3 years working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Qualifications
- Degree or working towards a degree in quantity surveying or commercial management

Skills
- Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear reports for conveying complex information in a simple way to a diverse range of people
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop relationships
- Ability to work in a team
- Effective negotiation skills
- Numerical and data analysis skills
- Creative and innovative approach to problem solving
- IT skills and the ability to learn new software packages
- Resilience, determination and the ability to work well under pressure
- Good commercial awareness
- Practical, logical and methodical approach to work

- Detailed knowledge of past and current building and construction technology, processes, materials, business and legal matters.



Knowledge
- Awareness of the tendering process
- Awareness of the various forms of contract used across the industry
- Knowledge and understanding of commercial management of construction projects and the construction process in general
- Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles
- Awareness of the requirements to provide and obtain insurance, bonds and warranties

- Working on an existing project in Croydon
- Value £25 Million
- Design & Build
- New Build residential scheme consisting of 120 units
- Reporting to project based Senior QS
- Role will be based on site in Croydon
