​What is an Architect?

Architects are responsible for creating designs for new construction projects, alterations and redevelopments. Architects use their specialist construction knowledge and high-level drawing skills to design buildings that are functional, safe, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.

Architects will be involved throughout the entirety of a construction project, as they may need to adapt their plans due to factors such as environmental factors and budget constraints.

What are the typical duties and activities for an Architect?

From employer to employer the job description of an Architect will vary, however typical duties and activities undertaken include:

  • Liaising with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects

  • Specifying the requirements for each project

  • Writing and presenting reports, proposals, applications and contracts

  • Viewing building sites, proposed locations and client meetings.

  • Completing planning applications and speaking to legal professionals and local authorities

Skills required to be a successful Architect

To be successful as an Architect, the below skills are important;

  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD)

  • Analytical

  • Communication, both written and verbal

Vienna Central Station, also known as Wien Hauptbahnhof (Vienna Main Train Station), is the largest railway station built in Vienna, Austria, replacing the old Südbahnhof terminal station. The station links four major railway lines, which meet at Vienna from four directions. 

Aspern Seestadt

Aspern Seestadt is Austria's largest construction site. In several phases until 2030, a new city will be constructed in Vienna's 22nd municipal district, covering an area of 2.4 million m². This area will provide accommodation for about 20,000 people and create an estimated 20,000 workplaces. The aim is to balance work and home life, green space and urban flair, high-quality standards and scope for individuality in this ”city within a city”.
