Junior Building Envelope Specialist

Job Description

Our client, a multi-disciplinary Engineering and Design firm located in Vaughan ON, is looking to hire a Junior Building Envelope Specialist for their team.

 

Junior Building Envelope Specialist - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform independent accurate field measure‐ups during design stages
  • Become proficient in building envelope reviews and designs, including OBC and NBC, source appropriate building materials/systems for projects with research and interaction with industry specialists
  • Review shop drawings during contract administration under minimal supervision
  • Prepare permit application documentation under the direction of others
  • Prepare technical specifications for minimal review by others
  • Prepare construction change documents under supervision of others
  • Work towards obtaining BCIN designations in Legal and Small Buildings and/or LEED certification
  • Estimating quantity of materials and construction budgets
  • Attend tender and project meetings under supervision of others, and prepare meeting minutes as required
  • Prepare building condition audit reports and feasibility reports with minimal supervision
  • Develop skills in MS Project under supervision of others
  • Prepare tender documents and specifications for client
  • Exposure to clients, contractors and other designers with supervision of others
  • Work towards obtaining Building Science Specialist (BSS) designation
  • Continue to develop skills and knowledge in building envelope systems and components, including roofing, cladding, waterproofing (including foundation waterproofing) and various wall and glazing systems
  • Continue to develop skills in building rehabilitation, including concrete sounding and restoration.

 

Junior Building Envelope Specialist - SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • One - two years’ experience, and have demonstrated experience working with all aspects of building envelope systems,
  • Well versed in Parts 3, 4, 5, 9 and 11 of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills are expected.
  • Travel will be required as part of workload assignments, primarily in Southern Ontario, thus the candidate must have a valid class G Ontario Driver’s License and their own vehicle complete with valid automobile insurance.
