Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Leicestershire (office-based with UK site travel)
Up to £35,000 depending on experience
Full-time | Permanent | Flexible working hours

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join a growing specialist construction contractor delivering refurbishment and installation projects across the commercial, education, healthcare and public sectors.

This position is ideal for recent graduates, experienced trainee quantity surveyors, or commercial/finance assistants looking to progress into a fully supported QS role. You will gain exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and commercial management, working closely with an experienced Commercial Manager and project teams, with structured training and clear progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

You will assist with:

  • Tender cost preparation and project handovers

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and contract documents

  • Site surveying and measuring works

  • Preparing valuations, variations and payment applications

  • Subcontractor procurement, orders and account management

  • Cost control, budgeting and cash flow forecasting

  • Financial reporting and maintaining accurate project records

  • Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and clients

  • Identifying commercial and contractual risks

  • Attending sites across the UK as required

Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities

  • Organised with strong time management skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Degree or studying Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar

  • Experience in a trainee QS, assistant QS or commercial support role

  • Knowledge of JCT or NEC contracts

  • Working towards or interested in professional accreditation (RICS/CIOB)

  • Construction or subcontractor environment experience
