About the Company
Our client is delivering a major section of the UK's new high speed rail network as part of a joint venture between four leading international civil engineering contractors.
Together they bring world class expertise in the design and delivery of major rail infrastructure projects. Their scope of work covers approximately 80km of the new railway between the Chiltern Tunnel and Long Itchington Wood and includes large scale earthworks, viaducts, bridges, tunnels and highway diversions.
This programme represents one of the most significant civil engineering projects currently underway in the UK and offers engineers the opportunity to work on complex infrastructure that will support the country's future transport network.
About the Role
As a Section Engineer you will play a key role supporting construction delivery on a major infrastructure scheme based near Aylesbury.
Working closely with the Sub Agent, you will supervise the site engineering team and support the delivery of highways, structures or earthworks packages. You will help coordinate engineering activities from construction through to completion while ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.
This role would suit someone with strong site engineering experience who is ready to take on additional responsibility managing engineers and supporting construction operations.
The key requirements for this Section Engineer role are:
- Supervise and coordinate the site engineering team during construction activities
- Manage site setting out and ensure works are delivered to the correct specification
- Support the Sub Agent in managing day to day construction operations
- Assist with temporary works coordination and implementation
- Work with site management teams to allocate labour, plant and materials
- Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure works meet contractual requirements
- Identify and resolve engineering or technical issues on site
- Ensure engineering teams have the correct drawings, information and resources available
- Assist with programme updates, progress reporting and resource planning
- Contribute to cost monitoring and project forecasting
Experience required for this Section Engineer role are:
- Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction related discipline
- Experience working as a Site Engineer or Section Engineer on civil engineering projects
- Strong knowledge of site engineering and construction processes
- Experience delivering works involving earthworks, structures, utilities or highways
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage engineering teams and coordinate site activities
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Section Engineer role are:
- Experience working on rail or major infrastructure projects
- Working towards chartership with ICE
- Experience managing junior engineers
