Quantity Surveyor & Senior Quantity Surveyor – Rail Projects

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working 2 days per week in the office)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary:

  • Quantity Surveyor: £42,000 – £52,000

  • Senior Quantity Surveyor: £52,000 – £62,000


Quantity Surveyor & Senior Quantity Surveyor required for major rail infrastructure projects.

Our client is a well-established built environment consultancy delivering complex and high-profile rail and infrastructure schemes across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors to join their Birmingham-based rail team.

These roles offer an excellent opportunity to work on major rail programmes, supporting cost management, commercial control and contract administration, while benefiting from a flexible hybrid working model and clear career progression pathways.


About the Role:

You will support (QS level) or lead (Senior QS level) the commercial management of rail projects, working closely with clients, contractors and project teams to ensure strong financial performance and value for money.

Senior Quantity Surveyors will take responsibility for managing sections of work, mentoring junior staff and contributing to the wider commercial strategy of the project.


Experience Required:

Quantity Surveyor (£42k–£52k):

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in Quantity Surveying

  • Background in rail, civil engineering or infrastructure projects

  • Understanding of cost management, reporting and contract administration

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline

  • Working towards chartership (desirable)

Senior Quantity Surveyor (£52k–£62k):

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Quantity Surveying

  • Proven experience managing rail or major infrastructure projects

  • Strong commercial and contractual management capability

  • Experience mentoring or managing junior QSs

  • Chartered status (RICS / ICES / CIOB) or working towards


Duties include:

  • Cost planning, forecasting and financial reporting

  • Supporting or leading procurement and subcontract management

  • Administering contracts and managing change control

  • Risk management and value engineering

  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders and project teams

  • Preparing valuations, final accounts and commercial reports

  • Supporting project delivery teams to achieve programme and cost objectives
