Location: Perth or Glasgow, Scotland - Hybrid working available

Salary: £45,100 - £51,700 negotiable dependant on experience plus;

- 25 days per year holidays plus bank

Summary

A specialist environmental consultancy supporting UK public and private organisations throughout planning and development are seeking a motivated and experienced Principal Aquatics Consultant, who will be primarily responsible ensuring technical excellence within the freshwater aquatic ecology team, including delivery of training, technical review of reporting and review of internal processes and procedures in line with national policy and legislation.

In this role you will lead on the recruitment, growth, direction and management of a successful Scottish aquatic ecology business, maintain and develop new client, subconsultant, stakeholder, and partner relationships, and seek opportunities to support growth, delivery and business sustainability whilst also managing and regularly reviewing risks.

You will steer the career paths of your team, set a healthy culture, and lead by example, including leading on cross disciplinary working. You will take a leadership role in directing and overseeing delivery of projects and supporting junior project managers through the project lifecycle.

What You'll Do

- Technical leadership and development of the freshwater aquatics team
- Identify potential clients, liaising with senior members of the Senior management team to regularly review market developments and opportunities.
- Provide effective, high quality project management for a range of aquatic projects and contribute towards the management of multidisciplinary work streams.
- Line management; develop individuals and the wider team in line with KPIs, utilisation targets, CPD, individual and team skills development goals
- Work with the senior members of the Scottish team to bring new ideas and approaches to team and business growth, development and structure
- Lead technical work/review on projects while ensuring high levels of quality and environmental responsibility in line with ISO accreditations
- Ensure client expectations are met and managed appropriately
- Use technical knowledge and expertise to input into marketing and raising the profile of Gavia through attendance at conferences and training events
- Identify and manage of external specialist sub-contractors
- Prepare fee proposals and tenders and budget control throughout the lifetime of projects

Seeking someone with:

- 5 - 10 years relevant experience
- Relevant environmental related degree/equivalent higher level qualification/experience
- MCIEEM / CEcol / CEnv / other membership such as IEMA/MIFM/CIWEM preferred
- Competent and knowledgeable about a range of freshwater aquatic survey techniques
- Experience and advanced understanding of EIA
- Prepare and review shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)
- Knowledge and experience of water quality monitoring and parametric impacts
- Demonstrable leadership and management experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong commercial awareness and knowledge
- Excellent project management skills
- People and technical leader and strong team player
- Knowledge and expertise across the discipline, including relevant legislation, guidance and policy
- Maintains CPD in accordance with the requirements of a professional body i.e., CIEEM
- Appropriate technical qualifications and licences e.g. SFCC Team Lead Electrofishing qualification / NatureScot FWPM licence
- Full and valid driving licence
