IT Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Watford
Salary: Circa £51,000 - £55,000 plus package / hybrid working
Summary
A Tier 1 major contractor designing and building large civil engineering and construction projects all over the world are looking to take on a IT Infrastructure Engineer to to play a key role in supporting and evolving our IT infrastructure estate.
This position will provide hands-on technical expertise across on-premise virtual and physical servers, cloud-hosted platforms, and network-related services. You will be instrumental in ensuring operational stability while contributing to strategic design and transformation projects that enhance IT services.
This role offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of technologies and service providers, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical skills with a security-first mindset, excellent problem-solving ability, and the confidence to contribute to design discussions and continuous service improvements.
Role Activities
- Provide 3rd line technical support for infrastructure services, ensuring operational stability and performance.
- Support the design and implementation of infrastructure solutions, contributing best practice and operational insight.
- Lead and assist with problem management, including patching, configuration changes, and service restoration.
- Contribute to the strategic development of IT infrastructure through research, testing, and PoC activities.
- Manage the deployment, release, and transition of IT services, adhering to established change control processes.
- Ensure all solutions are implemented with IT security at the core, supporting the organisation's security accreditations.
- Liaise effectively with internal teams, users, and external service providers, ensuring high levels of service delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation and promote effective knowledge management practices.
Essential Qualifications/Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in an Infrastructure Services role (3rd line)
- Strong experience in Microsoft Azure infrastructure and services.
- Proven track record in supporting and managing infrastructure environments (on-premise and cloud).
- Ability to provide senior-level technical support and resolve complex issues.
- Security-conscious approach to design, implementation, and operations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience and understanding of server operations
- Full clean driving license
Desirable
- IT-related degree and certifications highly desirable (Microsoft O365/Azure Administrator, CCNA, ITIL Foundation).
- Hold Azure, M365 and ITIL certifications.
- Data Migration experience preferred (essential for candidates looking for the higher end of the salary)
