The company specialises in maintaining, commissioning, and upgrading high-speed trains (HST), Intercity fleets, and other rolling stock, with ambitious growth plans. The business operates a warehouse in Dereham and provides lodges for employees traveling from outside the area.

About the Commissioning Engineer role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in commissioning and maintaining various fleets, including Class 125, Intercity T43 Mark 3, Class 20s, Class 473, and the soon-to-be-acquired Class 60 Arriva fleet. This is a hands-on role that requires fault-finding expertise, knowledge of train systems, and the ability to ensure operational readiness for both domestic and export projects.

Key Responsibilities for the Commissioning Engineer role are:

  • Identify and diagnose faults across train systems including doors, interior sockets, fire suppression systems, and other onboard equipment
  • Commission trains for export and domestic operation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards
  • Manage projects including timelines, costs, and resource allocation
  • Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and technicians
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, following company procedures and railway standards
  • Produce accurate reports on faults, commissioning progress, and project outcomes
  • Liaise with the Head of Engineering and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Maintain awareness of project schedules, fleet availability, and operational requirements
  • Participate in international projects as required

Essential skills and experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role:

  • Previous experience with HST, Mark 2/Mark 3, and Class 60/66 rolling stock
  • Proven experience in commissioning and fault-finding on trains
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and onboard systems
  • Leadership experience, including managing teams and delegating tasks
  • PTS certification (Personal Track Safety)
  • Flexible approach to working hours and locations, including travel to projects

Desirable skills and experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role:

Experience with fleet management, project planning, and reporting

Knowledge of international rail standards and export commissioning processes
