Civil Design Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Summary

A successful design and consultancy compny speciialising in the fields of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and M&E Engineering are looking to recruit a well-rounded Design Engineer for their Birmingham office located in the St Paul's Square, Jewellery Quarter.

As a Design Engineer, you will play an essential role in supporting design and assessment projects while fostering a collaborative and safe working environment.
The role sits within our Civils division which provides design and consultancy for rail and transportation related ancillary civils and temporary works designs.

Key responsibilities for this Civil Design Engineer role

- Assist staff in all matters of design and assessment commissions, surveying, estimating, drawing, and site inspections, bringing enthusiasm and a proactive approach to each task.
- Participate actively in team discussions and project meetings, contributing ideas that enhance project outcomes and team morale:
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, Fire Regulations, and COSHH requirements through diligent attention to safety in all design deliverables.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all safety legislation and contribute to designers' risk assessments, demonstrating commitment to professional standards and safety.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with codes of practice and Network Rail standards through the design work undertaken, actively seeking opportunities to incorporate innovative practices and solutions.
- Undertake design commissions, including calculations and checking, as well as technical submissions and CAD activities, to deliver innovative design solutions that meet client needs.
- Participate in site-based design survey activities, ensuring that all work is carried out with precision and attention to detail, contributing to the overall quality of the project.

Qualifications & Skills for this Civil Design Engineer role

- At least 2 years relevant rail / engineering experience (Mandatory).
- Degree qualified in a civil or structural engineering or related subject (Mandatory).
- Membership of relevant professional institution (Desirable).·
- Competent user of core Microsoft Office application software (Word, Excel etc.).
- Ability to read, write and hold conversations in English at a professional level (Mandatory).
- A full, valid UK driving licence is desirable but not essential. If using a personal vehicle for work-related travel, the employee must ensure they have business insurance to be eligible for mileage reimbursement.

· Salary range - £32,000 - £45,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
· 25 day annual holiday allowance (plus bank holidays) and a holiday sale/purchase scheme (5 days pro-rata).
