Job Title: Managing Quantity Surveyor
Location: Brentwood (flexibility to work from home a few days a week, with the remaining three days spent in the office/on-site)
Salary: £80,000-£90,000 plus car allowance & great company benefits
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
A well-established civil engineering and infrastructure business is looking to strengthen its commercial function with the appointment of a Managing Surveyor in Brentwood.
With a strong and growing portfolio of projects, the successful candidate will take senior commercial responsibility across multiple contracts, driving financial performance, margin improvement and effective commercial governance while leading and developing the wider commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional to join a growing business, take genuine ownership across the business unit and play a key role in its continued commercial growth and long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall commercial responsibility across multiple contracts, ensuring strong cost control, accurate CVR reporting and financial visibility.
- Monitor project performance against budgets and forecasts, driving margin improvement and commercial opportunities.
- Ensure effective NEC contract administration, including early warnings, compensation events, contractual notices and compliance.
- Lead change control, commercial risk and opportunity management, maximising financial recovery and minimising exposure.
- Oversee applications, valuations and cash collection to support strong working capital and cashflow performance.
- Ensure consistent application of commercial processes, governance and best practice across the business unit.
- Lead, mentor and develop QS and AQS teams, promoting a high-performance and accountable commercial culture.
- Provide commercial training, guidance and support to ensure consistent standards across the team.
About You
- Experienced Managing Surveyor / Commercial Manager / Senior Commercial professional with significant commercial leadership experience.
- Proven ability to manage multiple contracts, drive margin improvement and maintain strong commercial and financial control.
- Strong practical knowledge of NEC contracts and administration.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with excellent reporting, analytical and systems skills.
- Proven experience leading, mentoring and developing QS/AQS teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive, commercially driven and able to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent experience.
Desirable
- MRICS or equivalent professional chartership.
