Freelance Design Manager
Location: Yorkshire
Duration: 12 Months Initial Contract
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £425-£475 Outside IR35
My client is seeking an experienced Freelance Design Manager to join a refurbishment project and lead the design coordination process from pre-construction through to project completion.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing design information, coordinating consultants and subcontractors, and ensuring the design programme aligns with project delivery requirements. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and proven experience delivering refurbishment and renovation projects within occupied or live environments.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate the design process throughout all project stages.

Review and monitor design information to ensure compliance with programme, budget, and client requirements.

Liaise with architects, consultants, subcontractors, and the client team.

Identify and resolve design-related issues proactively.

Chair and lead design coordination meetings.

Ensure statutory approvals and technical submissions are managed effectively.

Monitor design changes and assess their impact on cost and programme.

Support the project team in achieving successful project delivery.
Requirements

Proven experience as a Design Manager on refurbishment, fit-out, or renovation projects.

Strong understanding of construction methodologies and building regulations.

Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.

Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Proficiency in common construction and design management software
