We are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Manager to join an established construction business with a strong pipeline of projects across the East Midlands and wider UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager, or a strong Senior Design Coordinator looking to take the next step, to join a growing team and take ownership of the design process across a range of construction projects.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to the commencement of works on site.
You will work closely with internal teams, external consultants and project stakeholders to ensure designs are coordinated, compliant, commercially viable and ready for construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the design process from planning and contract execution through to construction.
- Coordinate external design teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
- Lead design reviews and ensure design information is fully coordinated.
- Identify and resolve technical and design issues before they impact construction.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers and Site Teams.
- Assist with planning submissions and the discharge of planning conditions.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Building Regulations and statutory requirements.
- Support value engineering and identify opportunities to improve buildability and cost efficiency.
- Review technical information, drawings and specifications.
- Ensure appropriate design risk management in line with CDM requirements.
- Support the project team through the transition from design and pre-construction into delivery.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong background in construction design and coordination who is comfortable taking ownership of projects and working independently.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working as a Design Manager within the construction industry.
- Alternatively, significant experience as a Senior Design Coordinator ready to step into a Design Manager position.
- Experience within new-build construction, ideally residential.
- Strong technical and design coordination knowledge.
- Experience managing external consultants and design teams.
- Good understanding of Building Regulations and construction standards.
- Knowledge of planning processes and planning conditions.
- Understanding of CDM and design risk management.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to identify design issues and provide practical, buildable solutions.
