Our client is a specialist engineering consultancy delivering design and technical solutions across the UK power and energy sector.
Supporting projects across grid connections, substations, renewable energy and network infrastructure, the business works closely with clients across IDNO, DNO and wider energy markets. With continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are looking to appoint an Electrical Design Manager to lead and support the next phase of growth within the design function.

About the Role
As Electrical Design Manager you will lead a team of electrical design engineers delivering high voltage design solutions across a range of power and energy infrastructure projects.
The role combines technical oversight, people leadership and client-facing responsibilities, with a focus on managing remote teams, leading technical meetings and ensuring design outputs are delivered to a high standard.
This position would suit someone with strong IDNO or DNO experience who is comfortable managing engineers, engaging directly with clients and leading design delivery across multiple projects.
Travel to client design offices and head offices in London and Milton Keynes will form part of the role.
The key responsibilities for this Electrical Design Manager role are:
- Lead and manage a team of electrical design engineers across multiple projects
- Provide technical oversight across HV design schemes including grid connections and substations
- Lead team meetings, workload planning and design coordination activities
- Support the development, mentoring and performance management of engineers within the team
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings and technical deliverables
- Ensure compliance with DNO, IDNO and industry design standards
- Manage client relationships and act as a key technical point of contact
- Attend client meetings and support stakeholder engagement across project delivery
- Support resource planning, programme management and project delivery performance
- Contribute to the growth and development of the wider design function
Experience required for this Electrical Design Manager role are:
- Proven experience in electrical design within power and energy infrastructure
- Strong IDNO or DNO experience
- Experience in HV design, ideally up to 132kV
- Previous experience leading or managing design teams
- Experience leading technical meetings and coordinating remote teams
- Strong client-facing experience and stakeholder management skills
- Experience reviewing and approving technical design deliverables
- Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Electrical Design Manager role are:
- Experience supporting grid connections or renewable energy projects
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation
- Familiarity with protection and control design
- Experience supporting business growth, team development or recruitment
