Design Manager (MEP) – Data Centres
Location: Netherlands (with European travel)
We’re partnering with a leading data centre platform in North-West Europe that is scaling rapidly and investing heavily in sustainable infrastructure. They’re now looking to appoint a Design Manager to play a key role across a growing portfolio of complex projects.
This Design Manager position offers direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence both technical standards and long-term design strategy across multiple countries.
The Role
As a Design Manager, you’ll take ownership of the full design lifecycle across a range of data centre developments, including new builds, expansions, and upgrades.
Working closely with project management teams and external consultants, the Design Manager will ensure that all designs are delivered to the highest technical standards, aligned with business objectives, and compliant with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary design delivery as the Design Manager across multiple live projects
- Coordinate and manage external consultants across MEP and CSA disciplines
- Drive design progression from concept through to detailed design and tender stage
- Ensure all outputs meet regulatory requirements and internal technical frameworks
- Support procurement activities, including preparation and evaluation of technical tenders
- Assist during testing, commissioning, and validation phases alongside operations teams
- Continuously improve internal standards, processes, and design methodologies as a Design Manager
- Act as a technical point of contact within the business, supporting feasibility studies and site selection
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives through technical input and forward-thinking design solutions
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- Proven experience operating as a Design Manager within data centre or mission-critical environments
- Strong understanding of industry design methodologies (e.g. RIBA, BSRIA, HOAI)
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across technical and commercial functions
- Experience supporting tender and procurement processes in a Design Manager capacity
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Fluent in English (German is advantageous)
