About the Role
As a Commissioning Engineer you will be responsible for the testing, commissioning and energisation of high-voltage electrical systems across substations, renewables and industrial infrastructure projects.
You will play a key role on-site, ensuring systems are installed, tested and commissioned safely and in line with project and industry standards. The role also involves working closely with project teams and clients while providing technical guidance and leadership on-site.
The key responsibilities for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Lead commissioning and testing of HV and LV electrical systems
- Carry out secondary injection, primary injection and functional testing
- Commission switchgear, transformers, protection systems and associated equipment
- Take responsibility for safe energisation of high-voltage systems
- Prepare commissioning documentation, reports and handover packs
- Work closely with project teams to deliver commissioning activities to programme
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and HV procedures at all times
- Provide technical support and guidance to site teams and junior engineers
Experience required for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Proven experience commissioning HV and LV electrical systems
- Strong understanding of protection schemes, testing and HV safety rules
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical schematics
- Experience working on substations, utilities or renewable energy projects
- Experience leading or supporting on-site commissioning activities
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Commissioning Engineer role are:
- Senior Authorised Person or HV Authorisation
- Experience working on transmission and distribution networks
- Experience across renewable energy projects such as solar, wind or BESS
- Electrical qualification such as ONC, HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering
