Assistant Quantity Surveyor

The role would primarily be based in Batley, but incorporates an area that covers Manchester to Leeds/York.

This is a freelance opportunity and the day rate is negotiable.

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide the business with post contract commercial support for designated packages of work, including subcontract, materials, and direct labour.
  • Ensure projects are successfully delivered within cost and time constraints.
  • Assist with commercial management of various work packages as directed. These may include Design, Installation, Test & Commission, Materials, Telecoms, Plant, Professional Services.
  • Input into work package change control and management.
  • Provide key commercial interface for responsible work package manager.
  • Assist the commercial team with providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineering.
  • Assist with work package cost management, including forecasting, budget management and control.
  • Monitor and actively input into the management and mitigation of work package risks.
  • Provide input to internal and external commercial reports as required by Commercial Delivery Strategy.
  • Ensure processes and document control align with the appropriate company standards.
  • Work with and collaborate with key partners, e.g.: finance, project management, engineering, sub-contractors, suppliers, and client.
  • Be responsible for maintaining auditable records for responsible work packages in accordance with contractual requirements.

Essential person specification for this Assistant Quantity Surveyor role:

  • Good track record in post contract management environment and position, ideally gained in a similar or related industry e.g. rail, aerospace, defense, construction, IT etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, coupled with good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the technical, contractual and financial requirements of the commercial management role and their inter-relationship.
  • Confident and able to deal externally and internally with various levels of stakeholder.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a team environment.
  • Understanding of working in a matrix working environment.
  • Experience of working within a project environment.
  • Good financial and commercial acumen.
  • Strong computing skills in MS excel, project, Outlook, etc.
